August 25th has come and gone with no word back on our short sale house. We went out on Sunday with our Realtor and took a look at a few more houses, and have expanded our search further north into Columbia Heights. Of course the best of the houses, the one that might actually work out both in terms of the house itself and it's ability to pass inspection, is half a block south of Fridley and a few blocks west of University, making it rather isolated in my opinion. No buses run near it on the weekends, and while there is one route for me to get to downtown on my moped...there's only *one*.
I've been struggling with this, since this very well could be our last chance at getting a house this year, and I know that being able to take his things out of storage is important to Justin, and I don't see us being able to find an apartment that's big enough for all of our things. I just don't know if I can handle moving that far out of the city. I really am an urban hobbit, and places without sidewalks freak me out.
All is not lost yet, thankfully. We still have a couple more houses to see and the Columbus house could surprise us. I just wish I knew how to make Justin understand why having reliable public transportation was necessary for me. His feeling is that whether it's 40 blocks south or 40 blocks north, it's still 40 blocks away from downtown. But there's a lot more to it than that.

As the girl who hates the idea of living in the city I actually understand your need to not live in the burbs.
However your feeling of isolation, wouldn't be so isolated because I live in the Heights!
And so does Xander!
And so does my super shy Chris!
As for no buses there are plans to link this area of town to downtwon via a new LRT line. maybe that helps?
That's true, you do live in the Heights, which is only adding to the wavering I'm doing (on the plus side, I swear).
I think at this point we're going to try to see those last three houses and then make a decision by the weekend. If none of them work out, I'll have to pick a side of the fence to rest on, and if it ends up being the Columbia Heights side, you better be a friendly neighbor, darn it. :P
Not having all your things for *a year*
v.s.
Not having the access you need for *an indefinite period of time.*
Just sayin'.
I get that, but he's already had his things in storage for a year and a half. And that's not my fault/responsibility by any means, but I'm trying to work on compromise. If there wasn't any way for me to get to the city on my moped or there wasn't bus access into work, then it wouldn't be a question. But it's all in this murky gray area of what makes up "enough" access.
